ark of the Covenant
The original Ark of the Covenant held the Tablets of the Law - the ten commandments carried by the people of Israel on their way to the Promised Land. My ark presents a different kind of covenant, the covenant that must exist today between the people of Israel and themselves. Between Torah and the army. An ark that all of us must lift together.
The verse I inscribed on the piece is: “And all the people, all the tribes of Israel, took their positions” (Judges 20:2),
along with the current Hebrew year and the number of fallen soldiers since the founding of Israel.

The connection between Judaism and Israeli identity feels to me both natural and essential, at the very core of who we are. This artwork holds many layers, the combination of Torah, Jewish tradition, covenant, soldiers, coffin, stretcher, and the shared burden creates a bridge between past and present, between tradition and solidarity, between history and the future, of a nation still on its journey.
